Building your
personal brand

How does your executive brand story help you to stand out from the crowd?

What is your personal brand story?

Whether it’s in an interview or in a networking situation, you need people to remember who you are and what you stand for. If you struggle to articulate what you’re all about, a long and boring CV is not going to help. The CV is not the first-line marketing tool that it used to be.

Give me a story!

The old-fashioned elevator pitch always sounds over-rehearsed, bland and impersonal. Trying to mention everything you’ve ever done is not what people want to hear.

An interesting and well-crafted career story is, however, something genuine and personal. Your career coach will help you to identify the key themes of your personal brand story and how you can weave these together to create a strong and lasting impression. Your brand storytelling will shape your LinkedIn, your verbal narrative, and your CV.

Find out how you can develop a professional brand story that will become the foundation of your personal brand, and something that you can continue to leverage in the future.

Your personal brand is important. Look after it.‍ ‍

Senior level recruitment has changed significantly in the past ten years. This much will be obvious to anyone who has tried looking for a new role recently. Making sure your LinkedIn profile really stands out is not as straightforward as it should be; getting time for a one-on-one meeting with headhunters is much more difficult than it used to be; and the art of networking has suddenly become a key skill that most of us have ignored for far too long. All of these are dependent on one key feature of your job search: effective self branding.

So what can you do to make sure you get noticed for the ideal job that you’re aiming for?

There are no easy answers, but one thing is clear: a distinctive and memorable personal brand is key. As Jeff Bezos said, “your personal brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room”. An effective brand starts with a verbal description of who you are, your ideal role, and what credentials you have for that role. Your LinkedIn profile, your personal website, and your CV should all support and reinforce that brand. Make sure that you can articulate a personal brand that will help you to stand out. It’s not an elevator pitch that you learn off by heart. It should be a new language that you use to describe where you’re going, and that others use to promote your brand even when you’re not there.

Taking time to get the brand story right is an essential step in any successful job search. Your career coach will work with you to develop an authentic and engaging personal brand and brand storytelling.
